BILLY FREW - BIOGRAPHY

"Photography is what you see in your mind. A camera captures the moment that others can't see."

Billy Frew is a professionally trained TV lighting cameraman and director of photography.

Based in Ayrshire south of Glasgow, he undertakes commissions all over the country and travels the world on various assignments.

Billy's interest in photography began in the art classes at school inspired by the environment and landscape of his native Scotland. After leaving college he began a freelance job with the local newspaper. His peers taught him the trade in the darkroom and on the job practical experience soon earned him enough to open his first high street studio premises.

He became a member of the Master Photographers Association (MPA) and the British Institute of Professional Photographers (BIPP) and a successful period ensued covering weddings, portraiture, press and commercial work.

A developing interest in the moving image led him to become a freelance BBC cameraman in 1979. He trained in video at the BBC's Wood Norton training school and now has over 25 years experience in the television industry working worldwide shooting news and current affairs, network and regional magazine and arts programmes, documentaries, live inserts, sport fixtures and features.

Full details of Billy's career in television can be found on his cameramans website www.billyfrew.com
